PhotoTravel takes us back to the beautiful and fascinating Northern area of Kenya, in the great African Rift Valley, to Lake Turkana. Lush landscapes await us where incredible tribes such as the Pokot, Samburu, Rendille and Turkana live, who will be our hosts and reveal some of the immemorial secrets of their culture. In this adventure we will have the opportunity to capture with our cameras all that cultural wealth that is still hidden in remote corners of Africa. Because this time we offer you a tour along the remote lands of Northern Kenya, far from the roads most traveled by conventional tourism, where the essence and purity of millenary cultures is still preserved.
Flight to Nairobi, Kenya.
Night on board
Arrival in Nairobi. There the PhotoTravel team in Kenya awaits us with the 4x4s and, immediately, we will head towards Lake Baringo, recognized as the main reference of the bird observatories of East Africa, where you can see up to 456 different species. Once there we will settle in our hotel.

Today we will dedicate ourselves to exploring the surroundings of Lake Baringo. This area is inhabited by the Pokots and Njemps or Il Chamo tribes. We will travel along both shores of the lake in a boat, from where we will be able to photograph some of its inhabitants fishing in their small boats. During our tour we will visit a village of Njemps and Pokot, where we stay long enough to take some great photographs.

After breakfast we will head to the Mararal Highlands, territory of the Samburu tribe, but before we will visit our last Pokot village.
We will arrive in the afternoon, walk around Mararal.

We are in Samburu lands, in a typical ecosystem of the area, a plateau whose altitude, at 2400 meters above sea level, provides green pastures all year round. The Samburu are close relatives of the legendary Maasai, with whom they share history, language, and traditions. They are the most powerful tribe in the region, and among them are the “Morans”, the Samburu warriors. We will spend the day getting to know this photogenic tribe and living with them in one of their villages.

Today will start early. We will leave soon, to slowly enter the Rift Valley, until we reach a remote village inhabited by the Turkana, where we will spend the day. With luck, we will be greeted with the Alakara Ceremony, the traditional dances and songs of welcome; A beautiful frame for spectacular photos. We will dedicate our visit to getting to know this interesting culture and taking spectacular photographs of the people of this Turkana tribe. At the end of the day we return to rest at our accommodation.

Our goal today is to reach Lake Turkana, the “Jade Sea”, as it is known in these lands, due to its enormous dimensions and its blue-green color. To do this, we will drive along a picturesque track that runs around the mountain. Once at our destination, we will spend two nights getting to know Loiyangalani, the village that welcomes us, and its surroundings. We will spend the rest of the day visiting the Turkana and getting to know their exciting culture, while enjoying the wonderful sunset and their cheerful and carefree dances.

Today in the morning we will make a long visit to the El Molo tribe, the smallest in Kenya and the oldest inhabitants of the shores of Lake Turkana, but recognized as skilled fishermen who use the most traditional methods in their trade. On our way back, we will make a stop at the “Desert Museum”, where we will be able to contemplate an interesting and didactic presentation that shows many of the cultural and ecological aspects of the region and its tribes, and where a good number of traditional artifacts used in ancient times are collected. After lunch, we will continue to visit the communities of Loiyangalani, mainly the Turkana, Samburu and Rendille.

Today we return, to the Samburu National Park area, on an exciting journey with spectacular landscapes.

After breakfast we head to Nairobi, where in the afternoon we will take our international flight.

First thing in the morning we will arrive at our destination, the end of our Kenya Photo Tour, Lake Turkana.
