China is one of those countries that every traveler should visit at least once in their lifetime. A vast territory where over five thousand years of history coexist with some of the most modern cities on the planet, where ancient traditions remain an integral part of daily life while enormous skyscrapers create a skyline that seems to have arrived from the future.
On this trip, we’ll explore some of the country’s most iconic landmarks. We’ll begin in spectacular Shanghai, China’s most cosmopolitan city, before heading to Beijing aboard the famous high-speed train. We’ll discover the Forbidden City, walk along the Great Wall of China, and travel to Xi’an to see one of humanity’s greatest archaeological discoveries: the Terracotta Army.
The journey continues south, where some of Asia’s most beautiful landscapes await. The karst mountains of Yangshuo, the Longji rice terraces, and the rural life of the Li River valley will allow us to discover a completely different, much more authentic and peaceful China.
We’ll end our adventure in Hong Kong, a vibrant city where East and West coexist like nowhere else in the world. Its markets, skyscrapers, temples, ferries, and spectacular views over the bay will provide the perfect ending to an unforgettable trip.
We’ve designed a comfortable itinerary with few hotel changes, utilizing China’s excellent high-speed train, considered one of the best in the world. As always with PhotoTravel, we’ll travel at a relaxed pace, savoring each destination and always seeking out the best photographic moments.
We depart on an international flight to Shanghai, which we can do from any point in Spain or internationally.

We landed in Shanghai, after the entry formalities to the country, transfers to our Hotel and check-in, a short rest, because we are eager to go out with our cameras and photograph the most cosmopolitan city in China, 23 million inhabitants, full of life.
Overnight at Hotel AD
After breakfast we will begin our visit by walking along the famous Bund , the elegant promenade along the Huangpu River from where we will contemplate one of the most impressive skylines in the world.
Afterwards, we will venture into the old town to visit the beautiful Yuyuan Garden , one of the best-preserved classical Chinese gardens, surrounded by traditional streets full of small shops and markets.
In the afternoon we will stroll along the lively Nanjing Road , the city’s main commercial avenue, and visit the former French Concession , one of Shanghai’s most charming neighborhoods.
Those who wish can end the day with a spectacular night cruise on the Huangpu River.
In the morning we will transfer to the station to board the high-speed train that will take us to Beijing, crossing a large part of eastern China.
A unique experience to discover the country’s impressive railway development while traveling comfortably at over 300 km/h.
Arrival in Beijing and transfer to the hotel.
Today we will discover the historical heart of the ancient Chinese Empire.
We will begin by visiting the immense Tiananmen Square before entering the legendary Forbidden City , residence of the emperors for almost five hundred years and one of the most impressive monumental complexes on the planet.
After lunch we will visit the magnificent Temple of Heaven , where emperors used to come to perform ceremonies dedicated to good harvests.
Very early we will head towards the spectacular Mutianyu section, one of the best preserved and least crowded sections of the Great Wall of China.
We will explore this impressive monument, declared a World Heritage Site, enjoying spectacular views over the mountains surrounding Beijing.
After lunch we will return to the city to take the high-speed train to Xi’an.
Arrival in the afternoon and transfer to the hotel.
The day will be dedicated to discovering one of the world’s greatest archaeological treasures: the Terracotta Army .
Thousands of warriors, horses, and chariots remained buried for more than two thousand years, guarding the tomb of the first emperor, Qin Shi Huang.
In the afternoon we will explore the ancient walls of Xi’an and end the day strolling through the lively Muslim Quarter, one of the most vibrant places in the city.
Transfer to the airport to catch our flight to Guilin.
From there we will continue by road to Yangshuo , a small town surrounded by some of the most spectacular scenery in China.
At sunset we will ascend to Cuiping Hill , from where we will enjoy a first panoramic view of the karst mountains that have made this region famous.
Before dawn we will travel to photograph one of China’s most iconic images: the fisherman with cormorants sailing among the mountains of the Li River.
During the day we will visit the historic Fuli Bridge, explore the rural landscapes of Yangshuo, and end the day photographing the sunset in Wulong .
At dawn we will have another photo shoot among the Damian mountains before heading towards the famous Longji rice terraces.
We will arrive in time to enjoy the light of the setting sun on the endless terraces cultivated by the Zhuang and Yao minorities.
Early in the morning we will photograph the activity of minority women working among the rice terraces as the fog begins to dissipate.
Afterwards we will return to Guilin, where we will stroll through the city and end the day next to the famous Sun and Moon Pagodas .
Very early in the morning we will have one last photo session with a local farmer and his water buffalo before heading to the station to catch the high-speed train to Hong Kong.
Arrival in the afternoon and transfer to the hotel.
We will dedicate the day to discovering some of the city’s most emblematic places.
We will visit Golden Bauhinia Square, the Avenue of Stars, ascend to Victoria Peak , explore Kennedy Town and enjoy the magnificent views from Repulse Bay .
As night falls, we will take a cruise around Victoria Harbour to admire one of the most impressive skylines in the world.
We’ll continue discovering the city by visiting the old Kowloon Walled City Park , riding the famous Central-Mid-Levels escalators and enjoying one of Hong Kong’s most spectacular urban journeys before having free time for shopping or further exploring the city.
Free time until the transfer to the airport to take the flight back to Madrid.
