Have you ever dreamed of going to the end of the world? Well, get ready, PhotoTravel is about to fulfill your dream. We go on an expedition to meet the nomadic tribe of the Nenets, to Siberia, to the Yamal Peninsula, or as they called it, “the edge of the earth“, over whose expanses they roam year after year with their immense herds of deer, and beyond which is only the cold Kara Sea and the ice of the Arctic Ocean. Here, at the ends of the earth, a real adventure awaits you in which you can learn about how the Nenets have lived since time immemorial, nomadic reindeer herders who are among the most traditional and isolated tribal peoples on the planet. A real immersion in the life and culture of these reindeer herders in their remote camps.
Arrival at Moscow airport, after completing the entry formalities, change of airport to take our internal flight to Salekhard.
Early in the morning we will arrive in Salekhard. Transfer to the Hotel. After an obligatory rest, we will acclimatize to the area with a pleasant photographic walk through Salekhard, the only city in the world located exactly in the Arctic Circle. Overnight at Hotel A.D.
After breakfast we will head in our SUVs to the nomadic camps of the Nenets. We will arrive after lunch, and we will settle in the chum, the traditional huts of the Nenets, characterized by being covered with reindeer skin. We will spend the rest of the day with our hosts, and we will sleep as they do, in their accommodations and in their camp, but inside our sleeping bags. Camp with the Nenets. Meeting with the Nenet family and dinner at the chum.
Three intense days await us, both in the photographic and in the cultural and human aspects. We will live with a family of shepherds and we will participate in the daily life of the inhabitants of this remote area of Yamal. We will move in search of the reindeer herds on snowmobiles or sleds. We will be able to participate and photograph the capture of wild reindeer and everything derived from that special relationship between men and animals that is established there. Here the whole day to day goes by to the rhythm of the reindeer’s life… Reindeer herders take any opportunity to catch fresh fish for their family. If possible, we will join the men in fishing alongside them on the ice. It is interesting to observe the work of reviewing and assembling fishing nets, they need to cut ice one meter thick to place them. Of course, we will also be able to participate in traditional angling within our camp. During these days our life will adapt to the Nenet culture. We will share their traditions, their chores, their traditional food and their homes. Camp with the Nenets
