Today we will visit the former royal capital of Benin, Abomey, to visit the royal palace and museums, a UNESCO world heritage site. The kingdom of Dahomey was a powerful empire that dominated the Gulf of Guinea, destroyed many enemy tribes, and even sold many prisoners into slavery. They had an army of female soldiers. We will continue to the area of Lake Ahemé, a sacred water point for the Mina and Peda peoples, ethnic groups of southwestern Benines.
